The Importance of Warranty
Electronics are risky merchandise to purchase without any means of replacement within a given warranty period. The chances of landing defective units may not be that high, but just the same, people would do well to be sure about their purchases for value of money. With a vast production line to satisfy the demands for technological enhanced gizmos and gadgets, probabilities of defective merchandise will always be a possibility in any manufacturing concern.
The list goes on as to what categories would fall under this area. Portable media, mobile computers, plasma television, LCD television, home theaters and other forms of technology breakthroughs are sure buys for the people who put premium in technology advancements. Hence the need to safeguard the vested interest of most consumers is a must if reliability is something to be measured for brand loyalty and awareness later on.

Switching from CRT to LCD Monitors

It is obvious that people would want to get in the times and switch to the vast available LCD monitors today that not only emphasizes on screen resolution but space management as well. Seeing that these products are selling just like pieces of cigarettes in Taiwan in my last trip to Taiwan last December, it was obvious that seeing them had a reason. The time to get myself an LCD monitor of my own!
I will forever regret of not buying one when I was in Taiwan. The priced has a difference of around $40 compared to the local retailers. The brands available there included Asus, Samsung, Pioneer and AOC. Pressed for time and with my mind spinning from the available products there, I chose not to get one and postpone my purchase through my friend and associate who could send the monitor to me at any time I would wish.
But once I got back home, it took me only 24 hours to use my old AOC CRT monitor and it got busted as quickly as I used it. While I remember what my friend told me, I needed a monitor badly since I had a lot of pending jobs in the form of article writing and blog entries to catch up on. My solution? What else but to buy a new monitor. Apparently, it was the Christmas Rush so I really had problems of transporting a large CRT monitor to my car as parking was really a drag.
I came across this Samsung SyncMaster 740N LCD monitor which I bargained until I could afford it. I ended up getting one for $200.00. If I got one in Taiwan, I would have gotten it for $150.00! Nevertheless I just considered it as a Christmas gift for myself. Besides, its been a while since I bought something worthwhile, and being able to buy my very own LCD monitor has its fulfillment in a way.

Upgrading your Video Graphics Card

To date, there has been a rigid outset of new and highly featured video graphics card spread over the market. A lot of this has to do with the new wave of games being offered over the personal computer genre and the response to the demands of higher capable graphics cards is becoming rampant as each year progresses.
Games and graphics applications have constantly demanded for higher specifications, a trend that has been normal for some time now. For some, upgrading their graphics cards has not been an option. But for computers that have been in use for more than 2 to 3 years, total revamp of their computers have become automatic to keep in step with the ever changing requirements based on the computer aspect of technology.
The choice lies on whether the need to upgrade the entire set or just the graphics display of a computer must be considered. For what it’s worth, it would depend on the purpose of the upgrade and the requirements of new programs installed in them. If they are merely after improving the current setup, perhaps only one aspect of the entire setup must be considered which can be the graphics card adaptor, memory or hard disk capacity and speed in all.

Inconveniences Caused by the Taiwan Earthquake
Many of you may have heard of the 7.2 scale earthquake that shook Taiwan some days back. While natural disasters have become common today, normal consumers who use the Internet medium may have noticed some connection problems, particularly that of Asia. While people may ask why in the world they would be affected, this is because of connections.
The Internet covers a wide network, and hence, if one point of the network would have problems, the result is an overall affect with regards to connection speed. There are usually pointed out as gateways or slingshot points where connections travel at any part of the world. And thanks to the earthquake a lot of underground cables as the undersea earthquake off the coast of Taiwan disrupted most communications, including mobile networks.
For the past days prior to the entry of the 2007 New Year, connections have been slowly restored and going back to normal. For people who love to download and access the web, such would be noticeable. Hence, the next time you see on the news why most Internet connections are lousy, thank natural phenomenon as the earthquake that shook Taiwan for it.

The Filipino Ignorance of Home Grown Talent
This is really more focused on local newspapers and magazines who still follow the old recruitment ways of filling up their personnel requirements. Writing for example will not be entertained if they do not have degrees in Journalism or Education. These requirements are truly something that most companies use as their basis for selecting people rather than the actual work output that most people would have. It did not even occur to them that talented writers and composers may have opted to choose another course in college or MBA but really have to natural capabilities of becoming good writers today. Writing may be a past time for them, and being good with a bunch of words and writing unique content as based on opinions and supported by minimal research, most writers originate and grow from such tactics. Truth of the matter is, a lot of Filipinos can be traced working online abroad, doing article writing work, blogs, and unique compositions, each earning in foreign currency rather than to the peso value which is surely low and unacceptable.
Just a few months ago, people were asking me why I chose to write for the foreign countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. My straight answer was that these companies appreciate and provide better opportunities rather than the local newspapers that include Inquirer and Manila Bulletin. Locally, they still follow the old schematics of hiring personnel so is it surprising why most writers would rather bring their gear and serve other countries as well?
It is only typical and natural for home based organizations to overlook people. They are still stuck in the ancient realms of tradition to which has contributed into holding back evolution of the country in all aspects of development. People are getting wiser nowadays and following the lead of old fuddy duddies is something that will also hinder career growth as well. Why write for companies that opt to recruit well-known personalities for the sake of marketing their publications over unique and quality writers that offer a lot of things in their minds? It is purely becoming a marketing effort to promote the name of publications rather than what they really contain. To cut a long story short, the important thing of gaining impact towards the consumers as far as seeing and reading what can easily be understood rather than sticking to traditional ways of management and writing.
My parting message?
Just don’t be surprised why one day you will run out of good writers who would
want to work and contribute to you…they may have grown out of their shell
already and may be building on personal branding and career development,
something that takes ages for local bred talent to realize that opportunity
knocks and the doors and minds need to be opened.

More Features, More Benefits Mean More Costly Gadgets
Known gadgets today that include Apple’s Ipod Video/ MP3 Player and Nokia’s N70 Cellular Phone series are among the hot commodities in the consumer demand today. The prices once known are really sure to hit the roof, and despite this, people still get them, serving notice and conflict to the known belief that most people are having a hard time coping up with their standard of living due to economic recession in various parts of the world.
Most people thrive on relying on credit card and debt for consumer satisfaction. The real problem occurs once the credit cards start collecting their dues. But regardless of this dilemma, people still find a way to be able to satisfy their longing that of which is to be among the people who can boast of owning state of the art devices and gadgets, something that has become evident in the reliance of consumers on gadgets today.

The Cost of Acquiring Technological Items
The acquisition of such items does not come cheap. In fact, at a glance, the cost may normally turn away the average consumer. But surprisingly, such has not been the case lately. Actually people could not care less at the price, as long as they are able to acquire such items and own one for the sake of satisfying their interest and need.
Cost does not seem to be an issue today. Despite various claims that the economies are having a hard time coping up with the rising cost of items, the influx of people and the demand for such hot items like IPods is something that will truly drive a grin towards the face of the manufacturers like Apple. But curiously for the economists, perhaps the state of people who claim that they are in crisis is more of a mindset stemming from word of mouth and promotional privileges. But just the same, as long as the demand is present, there is no reason for them to hold back manufacturing but rather satisfy the demand for such electronics and technological driven items today.

The Roving Marketer: Going Mobile
It is common to see most people purchasing and owning portable computers, familiarly known as laptops, that help them not only store needed presentation materials but also store pertinent documentation materials. Such a purchase is deemed as an investment by such people, while for the more fortunate, companies would issue them such gadgets to be able to boost efficiency and effectiveness.
The dilemma here is what notebook or laptop is enough to suit the needs of the sales and marketing executives. With various brands that include IBM, Toshiba, Asus, Compaq, and Sony Vaio, the search for the best serving mobile computer shows a relatively competitive demand despite the high prices they have over the normal desktop computer. Mobility and convenience is what they bring and this is a good auxiliary tool for people who need to be always in the field to cover the market area to which they are assigned. Technology has so far been among the more effective means of complementing the presentation prowess of most individuals, and this not only impresses the clientele to which they are catering to, but shows how innovative and advanced business has become today.
Not to take anyway from the ordinary sales person, this resort of getting good business has not yet been practiced religiously all throughout. Most companies still rely on the traditional means, owing to the fact that their budgets and educational know-how of most people under their wing are not that adept. But given time, most companies will surely go mobile, considering the high demand for proper product and service orientation practices and the fact that most target clients still put emphasis on fast and efficient service altogether.

Remembering Ultima Online Philippines: The Filipino Shard

If there is one thing that I cannot forget is my drive in 2003 of putting up this Online Game which was introduced to my by my best friend in 2001, Ultima Online. For me, this was the very first online game that really caught my fancy, most of the time spending long hours, and not shutting down my computers just to make my characters strong, mostly merchant developed ones. Unlike most typical players who would wander out, adventure and fight off monsters, my approach to the game was more of a business minded one. Why shouldn’t it be considering that most games can be looked upon as business related rather than fantasy and adventuring people?
My role here was to make the game totally interesting. I get to play God in a way, trying to balance good and evil. I will admit, I was after justice in all aspects, becoming a game that most people wanted to make a real true to life game where the people such as robbers, murderers and slayers would exist equally with the common players who would just want to fight off Non-Playing Characters (NPC’s). The game proper was really amazing, creating monsters with powers that can totally annihilate anyone with one blow, magic and other combat related skills. Anyone can practically mold their characters as legends in their own right.
There is nothing much to argue other than maintaining such a game, considering server hosting, scripting and other expenses are the main reasons for my closing it down some time ago. Players as well were inclined to try out new games that offered high graphics, something that attracted and lured out players one by one. Dwindling numbers, conflicts of interests, the game was made popular by the players and not by the Game Masters as some would claim. Playing God in the game was not even an enjoying moment, especially when you see people arguing and cursing each other, it was just simply a game that many had really taken by heart. That alone is a testimony that such a game gets the better of most RPG addicts. It simply means a lot to them when they get into the game.
Free gaming will not last long. Maintenance requirements are a reality and to keep a shard up is no big joke. The problem is, most of us are accustomed to freebies and this will simply reach a point where most people will consider stopping and just lean towards other game related sites that offer better qualities and so. But seeing this, having seen the article I wrote about Ultima Online Philippines in Manila Bulletin, the interview I had on television through Knowledge Power, the original site, forums, and the times I have had with the players online, as always, I treasure such experiences. I have no regrets of trying to put up that game despite the odds and the hardships, but facing reality with the manner on how to maintain such a game online requires funds, something that most people did not understand then, but do now.

No Mouse? Use the Shortcut Keys

Unknown to many, the earlier versions of computers made do without a mouse. The use of a plain keyboard was the original concept of most computers in the early 90’s, and until the birth of Microsoft Windows 95 was the need for a mouse called for to ease the interface that most people enjoy today.
For the earlier computer literate individuals, everyone was familiar with the various short cut keys. Such short-cut keys are really logical first letters. Paired with the CTRL key, they could practically do anything. Some of the easier shortcut keys are:
- CTRL + C – Copy
- CTRL + P – Print
- CTRL + F – Find or Search
- CTRL + S – Save
- CTRL + V – Paste
- CTRL + B – Bold Letters
- CTRL + I – Italic Letters
- CTRL + U – Underline
These keys are easier for Microsoft Office products, especially in Word and Excel. For the more seasoned users, they find no need to resort towards the icons beneath the menu of the programs, especially if they already know what shortcut keys to use.
Some have gone to the extent of even being available in most products and web interfaces such as blogs from Word Press. To sum it all up, familiarization is really the key and how it will stick in the memory of people shall make life a whole lot easier for them when they use a computer and enjoy the powers that each machine has. The entirety of it all is right before us, the matter of how to explore and discover them lies in our interest for them.
Friendster Requests: Is It Impolite to Reject Friend Requests?
To add people in a subscriber’s friends list, proper friend request permissions are sent out prior to actually adding them. For authentication purposes, a feature wherein verification if such people are really acquainted are asked such as the e-mail address, first name and last name, to preserve the privacy that most people have. For others, the option of allowing anyone on the Internet to see their profile and adding them as they wish is also made available. All these features are optional and can be set before and during the account subscription, which also happens to be free!
There was a time where Friendster limited the number of friends that one account had to only 500 friends. For most people, 500 is already a lot, hence forcing them to open up another account to be able to accommodate other friends who they may have not included in their list yet. While this was a good way to increase the subscriber database, it also meant having to consider the other factors such as hardware and software for the entire site as well. Storage, bandwidth and other factors needed an upgrade to accommodate such growth of this new fad, and this is certainly something that most successful ventures need to be open to. The limit by the way was eventually lifted, and people could add as many friends as they wished.
The trend continues today for Friendster. Its popularity increasing by the day and acquiring new members as its flourishes. It has made a marquee trademark for most people, and has even expanded the options they can do towards Blogging, profile enhancement using videos and music, testimonials and background enhancements all according to the member’s liking as far as expressing themselves.
Friendster has been successful and the only that perhaps they should take into consideration is their ability to accommodate the growing number of members, the load of data that they will have to carry and also the privacy concerns of most of its valued members. Friendster has allowed the people to express themselves, show off who they really are but perhaps stricter measures as far as display of pictures, which they stress as something that should not be obscene or has copyrights be used. Small as it may seem, perhaps it would be better for them to start monitoring these activities, as they may find themselves in unwanted legal issues which may lead to conflicts and problems not only with the laws that govern it, but with the people who actually hold rights to as far as pictures are concerned.

Office Automation Systems: Replacements or Aides?
Every organization dreams of applying a system to help aid human interface and transactions. In most cases, these are needed to produce more efficient work and effective work flows. Time can be saved and immediate analysis for the overall operations can be immediately seen. The faster that a company is able to determine the overall performance the better it is for them. This is because for the human preparations, this will take days, sometimes weeks to go over historical data and produce the needed reports, especially financial standing and the running financial statements. An immediate overview that corresponds to all the departments will be able to show management what it lack and what it needs through them.
So in short, office automation, systems, computers and other technology related
developments are placed not for replacement. They are there to make a more
efficient working environment and guide companies to the direction where they
should be headed.

Information Technology Tidbits: Era of Substitutes and Temporary Replacements

Wise people will think of a way to build businesses and discover replacements. Sounds like a scientific approach but it is better to consider it as something that stems from curiosity and studies.
Business entrepreneurs often study the market for attractive undertakings that will be feasible prior to considering a business. A lot has been developed, particularly in the Information Technology Fields. Such businesses include:
Online Multi Player Role Playing Games (RPG
Online Gambling
Online Auctions
Cheaper Computer Parts Importing (Clone PC’s)
Article/ Content Writing
Printer Ink Substitutes
It is evident that sticking to the branded category does indeed cost. People can only afford so much, and this alone opens the door for study, substitutes if we will call it, so that bargain and better deals can be expected. Such has been the trend, especially for ink cartridges today. Some have offered refilling stations, while others have developed a step lower, Class A cartridge. Most companies, such as Hewlett Packard, Epson, Canon and Lexmark, have warned their clients that only original cartridges are advised, but do it make a difference? My hunch is that it depends on the quality of the cartridge being used. But a Class A quality is not as cheap as that of refilling an ink cartridge. Refilling cartridges make use of the same old storage, although it will only be good for a number of uses since it would result in eventual leaks that will not be good as far as final printing is concerned. Refilling may be good, but it only acts as a temporary solution. It does not intend to take the place of original ink cartridge parts. To make it short it only aims to prolong for a month or two, the useful life of a cartridge, but going over it after some time shall eventually be already harmful to the printer itself.
Class A cartridges, mostly coming from China and Taiwan are as good as the original ones. The method of packaging, the quality of printing is practically the same. Perhaps something that branded printers could do is specify the actual problem, the effects it would have on ink cartridge heads rather than just remaining general to allow people to be aware and of what they should expect. The only known fact is that once an ink cartridge head breaks down, it costs almost the same as actually buying a new printer. So broadening the preventive maintenance issue for printers, particularly the leading brands as Hewlett Packard and Epson, may wake up the consumers of what they should be fully aware of.

The Evolution and Development of the Black Gulaman

Finally it’s done and over with. Well, after some tense weeks of preparation, well at least I was able to talk and negotiate with the Chin Chin representative owners above current problems such as the pricing of the Chin Chin Black Gulaman and Power Bits Sports Drink Flavors. Apparently, there is a problem putting them in the stores as of late, mostly because the prices were being scrutinized. Nevertheless, I have no choice but to make do with what is already there, and modesty aside, “
beggars cannot be choosers”.
The class to which we are catering to is simply different. The Philippines is considered to be a poor country, but regardless, we see people driving in luxury cars, being able to carry around the latest released cellular phones, buying properties for future investments, and even surviving the outrageous tuition fees for their children just to get a decent education. I agree that the country is in a crisis, and to sum it all up, I can only think of one thing, it all boils down to the prioritized needs of every person. No thanks to Universal Robina Corporation’s C2, green tea will never be appreciated as to what it was really meant to be. Filipinos consider C2 as a health drink, but blabbering all over again, might as well just call it flavored iced tea because I assure you, we have already brought this product to the scientific levels of study and sad to say folks, there is no trace of whatsoever of green tea herbal elements in them. But then again, we don’t care as long as it is affordable right? It is all in the mind that we think it is healthy.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they are studying how to imitate our Chin Chin Black Gulaman, or Grass Jelly as it is more commonly called in the other countries. The Chin Chin Black Gulaman is a honey induced drink which contains real black gulaman tidbits inside. Priced in the area of Php 25.00 to Php 35.00, depending on where you buy it, it is hard to categorize in the market. It cannot be categorized as a drink since it has jelly inside, and neither can it be considered a desert, because it can be drank as a temporary substitute for people who don’t have the luxury of time. It will only be a matter of time before a product is placed in the market to compete against us. I am expecting it this year. But sad to say, we are way ahead of you. How and in what way? The Advent of Technology in Security Devices

I just finished browsing up some brochures on advanced security devices that my boss wanted to import and offer locally. With the widespread alert on terrorist attacks, each country worldwide has been resorting to stricter measures of control. I was so fascinated at the advanced technology of security, most of which I see in the movies. I never thought they would actually be real and coming out so soon.
People who watch such spy movie flicks as Mission Impossible, James Bond, or Terminator, well, people should pay attention more to the technology that they use. They are real and will soon be in your area. But in the same way that the cost for making such movie flicks is high, so will the same be needed for the local folks. Technology has a price, and such investment for security will depend on the amount they are willing to invest. One thing that is for sure, it will not be an easy decision to make, especially here in the Philippines, where terrorism will come from all directions, both locally and abroad.
The advanced security devices may be creepy if you think of it. It almost goes as far as invading your own privacy. Detectors, X-Ray machinery, and fingerprint scanning, it all boils down on how intelligent the person is on trying to avoid being caught. Safety has slowly become a large price to pay. But for sure, life is meaningless and not worth living, if we are feeling uneasy, especially in times of finding out how safe we are, or perhaps afraid to walk into public accessed places, where security is totally useless.

Gigmax: Not Just Another Free and Quality Storage Site!
For storage space, Gigmax allows a total of 30 megabytes (MB) of storage for registered users, roughly enough to store about 400-500 photos! Gigmax registered users can store any file outside of the usual photos they have. Music files are however not allowed to be stored since legal issues may ensue.
Many people would be asking, what makes Gigmax different from the other usual free storage sites like the ones given by Yahoo and Google groups, or maybe even the file allocation given by Friendster and Multiply. Well, as stated earlier, the amount given to each registered user is more than enough reason for any person looking for a large storage space. It would take some time before such limit space would be filled up, but then again, 30 MB is large and probably one of the largest public site where service can be easily appreciated, not to mention joining a community of people whom you can also check out as far as their publicly declared storage place is concerned.
Gigmax is on the rise and it would only be a matter of time before other leading sites who offer storage space allocation for their files would follow. But as well know, why wait when there is already a site that can provide larger space and flexibility in terms of accessibility. While the giants such as Yahoo, Multiply, and other better known sites are mapping out their plans to accommodate their actual patrons, Gigmax is far more ahead of them as far as personal satisfaction and accommodation are concerned on the Internet. By the time these giants have found their solution, who knows, Gigmax will have already increased its storage space accommodation and expanded its services towards their registered users database. Gigmax is one step ahead, and in the same way that it believes in, the site is for the Internet savvy people. So it needs no more explanation why Gigmax is Your Space, Your Storage!
For more information regarding their service, check them out at their website at Gigmax-Your Space, Your Storage.
